I am so excited to show you step-by-step how to make your very own dried flower holder.
It is so simple to make, requires very few supplies, and is such a unique DIY idea and gift!
Are you looking for a super easy home decor project? Or wanting to create a really meaningful gift for a friend you adore? Well, this dried flower wooden stand is an incredibly thoughtful, beautiful, and sustainable gift that takes just minutes to make!

Dried flowers, dried flower arrangements, and diy dried flower decor are all the rage atm. With this gift, I promise that you will end up with a masterpiece you will very likely want to keep for yourself 😉 … which is why I very highly recommend making more than one.
One of my closest friends moved to Sweden a few weeks ago for her master’s program and I wanted to make her a meaningful gift. I knew she would love this dried flower holder and would have it as a decoration in her new home. A quick trip to the hardware store and few holes drilled, and the dried flower holder was ready!
When my friend pulled it out of the gift bag, I can vividly remember her say “oh my god Stacey, this is so beautiful!” Her eyes lit up when she saw it and knowing she loved it made me so happy. And telling her that I made it for her from scratch made it even more special.
Why a dried flower holder?
Why not (?!?!?) is the real question! The wooden stand and dried flowers are long-lasting and will make the perfect housewarming or home gift for anyone. It’s also such a sweet “thinking of you” or “thank you” present!
I’m thinking of all the people in your life you could give this to and the list is never ending…. Friends, loved ones, co-workers, teachers, anyone who is environmentally-conscious, plant lovers, minimalists, and so on!
Not only is this dried flower holder really quick and easy to make, but it’s also extremely affordable! You most likely already half have of the supplies laying around at home.

I was shocked myself with how quickly it took to create it.
It honestly looks like you could’ve bought it from a shmancy fancy home decor shop! The dried flower holder also has a Scandinavian home decor look, which is so effortless.
The dried flower holder stand is absolutely perfect for adding a floral and minimal touch to any room in your house. I had one in our bedroom and living room. When I made them, I made three in 10 minutes – seriously.
The other week, my old roommates was in town and stayed with us for a night. She saw this creation and started taking photos of it because she’s moving into a new apartment in a few months and said it looked like something straight from a Pinterest board. I gifted it to her right that second. A few days after she got home, she sent me the photo below of it in her room! Her reaction and admiration of the flower holder was the reason I decided to make a post all about it!

Dried Flower Holder Supplies
- Piece of wood/ a wooden stick (Mine measured: 90 cm L x 3 cm W x 3 cm H and I ended up making three stands with it!)
- Sandpaper
- Pen
- Measuring tape/ ruler
- Drill
- Masking tape
- Dried flowers
Step-by-Step Guide
Get a piece of wood from your local hardware store. Most hardware stores have a sale section with different pieces of wood that would work perfectly for this! I went with a 90 cm long stick of wood because I wanted to make a few dried flower holders.

Most hardware stores can saw the wood for you either for free or for a very low charge. The hardware store I went to has a saw that anyone can use, so I actually sawed the block of wood into three pieces myself (30 centimeteters each). I think this added to the DIY feel of these dry flower stands! The total cost of the wood was about $4.00.

Once you get home, sand down the sides/ edges of the wooden stick where it was sawed. If you already got your piece of wood at the length you want and didn’t need to saw it, then you can skip this step altogether.

Next, grab your pen and measuring tape. Mark off every 3 cm on opposite sides of your piece of wood (see image below).
I found that this spacing worked perfectly for the look and feel I was going for with my dried flower holder. This is completely up to you how you decide to space it. You can change this up depending on how close or far apart you want your dried flowers to be. For a more minimal look, you could drill only 3 holes going down the middle of the wood.

Once you have your markings where you want you holes, grab your drill and tape. The tape was a great tip that Jay gave me. Tape around the drill bit (this length depends on the piece of wood you’re working with). This helps you to know when to stop drilling and so all of the holes are drilled evenly and are the same depth.

Carefully drill into the holes you marked with your pen. For any remaining bits of wood around the drilled holes, you can gently brush them away with your sandpaper.

Lastly, fill in the holes with your dried flowers. I had loads of dried flowers because I dry them myself. If you don’t have any, don’t worry! You can buy dried flowers from a local flower shop, farmers market, or order them online.
I recommend have different types of flowers (colors and textures) and different heights, since this will create a more dynamic effect.
Another reason I love this dried flower holder is because the mess it makes is so minimal. You just have to throw away some wood shavings and that’s it!
